Between April and September this year we ran a series of design workshops with children, young people, parents and carers. Their ideas, based on their lived experience of being in hospital or using mental health services, helped shape the early-stage designs that were submitted for our planning application in September.
Our illustrator Chris Glynn (opens in a new tab) joined all 18 sessions, sketching, taking notes, and building a visual narrative of the discussions. He has put together a five-minute fly through of what happened, including the grand finale when the architects presented their first designs to the different groups. We hope you enjoy watching this 'box set'. If you have anything you'd like to add, please email cambridgechildrens@cpft.nhs.uk. We welcome all feedback and ensure it is presented to the project groups.

Our Design Champions who took part in the workshops all have lived experience of being in hospital or using mental health services. Tristan is 11. He joined the conversations to think about how Cambridge Children's might look, both inside and outside. Here's what he had to say about the experience.
