This is an exciting milestone. Why? Well, there is truly no one better to tell the story of Cambridge Children’s than the children and young people who live in the region it will serve. This is their hospital and we believe their voice should be at the forefront of everything we do.
Our new Press Pack is made up of enthusiastic and creative young people from across the east of England who all have one thing in common: A passion for telling stories. They want to talk about the issues that matter to them, based on their own experiences of being in hospital, as a patient or as a sibling.
Over the coming months, the Press Packers will be telling the story of Cambridge Children’s in their own words. They will be an integral part of our communications team, playing a key role in deciding how we speak to our audiences. They will develop a better understanding of how to connect with each other and the wider community through a variety of media platforms. With training from industry professionals in television, radio and print, we will help them create the best content they can, in whatever form they want!
The Cambridge Children's communications team is led by Hannah Paten, Head of Communications (Major Projects) at CUH, and Andrea Grosbois, Head of Communications at CPFT. Andrea said:
"We're really lucky to have such a talented and dynamic Press Pack joining our Children's Hospital team! Sharing this unique journey through their eyes will be really powerful. They already have loads of creative ideas for how they want to do this. The Press Pack will also be a great development opportunity for these young people to learn some new skills and grow in confidence, too.
"We are passionate about co-producing the new hospital with young people and their families. The Press Pack will ensure our communications are truly co-produced, too."
Our first cohort are aged 13-17 and come from a range of backgrounds and experiences. They have already brought some amazing, ambitious and powerful ideas to our meetings.
We cannot wait to work with them. This is just the start of our journey together.
